The San Mateo-Foster City School District is looking for a Senior Groundskeeper.

Salary: $15.95 per hour
15 paid holidays

DEFINITION:
Under supervision, to perform varied landscape, irrigation and hardscape maintenance and construction work; to operate powered grounds equipment, such as edgers, push mowers, small riding mowers, trucks,
and trailers; to learn to operate large gang mowers, tractors and tractor attachments, and to perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The tasks listed in this section are representative of duties assigned to positions in this class.

This fist is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all of the tasks assigned to positions in the class, and it is not expected that allof the tasks listed are necessarily assigned to allpositions in the class.

Use hand groundskeeping tools and operate light and medium power driven mowers and grounds construction equipment. Operate a truck mounted parking lot sweeper. Care for and store tools and equipment in accordance with departmental procedures.

Mow and edge lawn areas, trim and prune trees and shrubs; mix and apply fertilizers and herbicides; pull weeds, blow and sweep walks and paved areas; water lawns and planted areas; rake leaves, weeds and grass clippings; prepare soil and plant lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, and ground cover.

Perform daily vehicle inspection and drive light truck with trailer to transport grounds equipment.

Wash, service, and maintain grounds equipment; make adjustments and minor repairs to grounds equipment, detect needed mechanical work, and make repair requests.

Load and unload equipment and materials; transport equipment and materials to sites.

Select tools, materials, and equipment needed to complete assigned work; transport tools, materials, and equipment

from truck to the work

area; use tools of the trade with skill, observing

applicable safety precautions, using safety shields, guards and clothing, and establishing a safe and secure work zone for self and others in the work area; leave area in clean and safe condition when work is complete.

Make routine repairs to irrigation systems; set timers.

Perform daily preventive and safety inspection and operate District vehicle to and from school sites and vendor locations obeying traffic laws and observing defensive driving practices; wash and fuel vehicles and check fluid levels.

Transport furniture; set up furniture for special events; collect and dispose of trash.

Dig trenches and perform other routine groundskeeping and grounds maintenance work, as assigned. Clean drainage ditches, gutters, down spouts and storm pipes.

Sweep sidewalks and pick up paper, rubbish and other debris.

Perform the full range of duties of the classes of Custodian and/or School Operations Team Leader, as assigned.

Supervise Sheriff Work Program participants in the performance of routine grounds work, as assigned.

Wear

job duties.

Perform safety inspections of

grounds

areas

and

report observed health and safety hazards to a supervisor.

Serve

on

assigned committees and teams.

Participate in District

mandated

training

and retraining programs.

May be called to work day or night in emergency situations. Perform related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS-
Knowledge of:
Operation, use, and maintenance of standard powered grounds equipment.
Safe operation of light and medium power grounds maintenance and construction equipment such as trenchers,
skip loaders, backhoes and ditch witch (Senior Groundskeeper). Methods, materials, and tools used in groundskeeping work. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Basic mathematics.
English usage.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background for entry into the class of Groundskeeper is some commercial or industrial experience in groundskeeping work and the operation of small (light) power groundskeeping equipment.

LICENSE REQUIRED:
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's license. Some positions (Senior Groundskeeper) may be required to possess or obtain a California Class II Drivers License, which may be obtained at District expense.
Possession of Power Actuated Anchoring System License is required and may be obtained at District cost.
Possession of a valid and appropriate California Chemical Applicator Certificate may be required and obtained at District cost during the first six months of employment. (Senior Groundskeeper)
